If you reach out, please don’t use Claude or ChatGPT to write the email. All faculty now get more of these emails than we can handle, and it’s very obvious — “yes, we can tell.” Surveys suggest that people who use genAI to replace the costly signaling of carefully crafting an email are generally perceived as less trustworthy and creative (“workslop”). We are unlikely to respond to AI-generated emails.
